Wendy Goldsmith is an advocate counsellor for human trafficking at the London Abused Women’s Centre. She says trafficking affects women of all ages and the scope of issue in the city is “staggering.”

Although the average age of a trafficking victim is between 18 and 25, some of the victims are seeking services later in life to deal with the trauma they’ve experienced.

Goldsmith is currently helping girls as young as 12 to escape from human trafficking in London.

The journey to escape, and find meaningful treatment, is often a turbulent process.

“There’s a lot of stigmas,” says Goldsmith. “Their issues are very complex.”
